Part Twenty-Five: The Third of March
There are two birthdays on one day and we have had four of them now and we have worked out a way to do it that does not require anybody to be brave.
It took three years to get there.
The first one was the bear cake and eleven one-year-olds and a woman standing in a bathroom for ninety seconds.
The second one was four months after I told him and it was, by any measure, a disaster; we tried to do it together, in one house, for Auggie’s sake, and it was unbearable for about six hours and Auggie, who was two, had a marvellous time and noticed nothing.
