Fifty-One Hours
There is a note in my own chart: Pt extubated, tolerating well, oriented x3, tearful.
I have no memory of being tearful and I do not know what I was told at 2:40 in the afternoon on the third of March or by whom.
4:15 p.m. Family meeting.
Present: Dr.
Constance Ubaldi, attending neonatologist; a fellow; the charge nurse; Davis Renfrew; Lorna Renfrew.
The note from that meeting runs to about three hundred words.
It records that prognosis was discussed, that the family was told the next twenty-four hours would be informative, that an MRI was planned for the following morning, and that the possibility of a poor outcome was raised explicitly.
