There were parts of my work I could not discuss casually.

Other parts I simply stopped explaining to people who had already decided not to listen.

Julian picked up his jacket.

“Chloe’s appointment is at eleven.

My whole family is already there.”

His face brightened.

“Mom’s calling him the Vance heir.”

That almost made me laugh.

For years, Eleanor had made little comments about how I had “only given the family girls.”

Now Chloe, Julian’s girlfriend of nearly a year, had apparently solved their great tragedy.
