Chapter 14 — Our Home

On our first evening in Pasadena, Toby and I ate warm cheese quesadillas sitting on cardboard moving boxes, because the dining table had not arrived yet.

Toby looked around the bare living room with enormous eyes.

“Is this whole new house really ours, Mommy?”

“It’s rented, for now,” I said.

“But yes.

It’s our home.”
