Forty-Eight Hours
That is the first thing and it is what everybody says and it was true.
He said: “Val.”
And I said nothing.
And he said: “I never wanted it to go that far.”
And I said: “You put our daughter in a box.”
He put his hands over his face and he said something about his mother — that she had told him Sophia was already gone, that the clinic had said, that it was a matter of paperwork, that she had said it was temporary and that they would fix it after.
And I asked him one question.
