Forty-Eight Hours
It is laminated and it is the size of a credit card and it says, in her own handwriting from when she was seven:
Please tell me what it is and what it does before you give it to me.
I am allowed to ask.
She has produced that card in a dentist’s chair, in an urgent care, and once, at seven, in a hotel in Colorado to a woman who was offering her a cough sweet.
The woman in Colorado read it and looked at me and I said, “She’s right.
Tell her what’s in it.”
