And there is an internal affairs finding, and it is one sentence long, and it is the most quietly devastating document in this entire matter:

Chief Miller was familiar with the name Vance Meridian Holdings, having been provided with a business card bearing that name by Claudia Vance in 2023.

He did not look further.

He did not look further because looking further meant sending somebody up a drive to a property connected to a family whose table he ate at, in a town of eleven thousand people, about a call from a woman who said herself that she felt stupid.
