Forty-One Thousand Dollars and a Yellow Paper Envelope
“There’s a paper in the bottom.
I didn’t want to touch it.”
I turned the envelope over.
A bank receipt, faded, folded into a square.
First National Bank.
Box Nine.
A date I had no use for yet.
The paper was soft at the folds, the way old bills get.
