“I trusted my wife.”
The words carried a painful familiarity. I had trusted my son. He had trusted Vanessa. Trust had traveled down through the family until it reached the person most willing to turn it into money.
Vanessa stood abruptly. “I’m not staying here while everyone attacks me.”
The company’s attorney stayed calm. “You may leave, but the preservation notice remains in effect. Company devices and records must be returned.”
She turned to Daniel. “Are you going to let them do this?” He kept staring at the lease. “For how long?”
