Goodbye, Useless Woman
Part 2
The first call came at 6:12 a.m., from Detective Marcus Reed.
“Mrs. Langley,” he said, his voice calm and professional, “your husband attempted to board Flight 418 to Zurich with Ms. Olivia Marsh. Homeland Security flagged both passports before boarding.
They’re currently being held for questioning.”
Wearing my robe, I stood in the kitchen and watched coffee drip slowly into the machine Victor had once called “too cheap” for people of our status.
“Did he say anything?” I asked.
Detective Reed paused. In the background I could hear muted airport announcements, suitcase wheels, and travelers moving on toward lives that still belonged to them.
“He claimed you were emotionally unstable,” Detective Reed said. “Then he said you’d given him full authority over all marital and business assets.”
