“Yes.” His voice had changed. “Is Lily safe?”

“She’s asleep.”

“Has her pediatrician been contacted?”

“I called the after-hours line. They told me to monitor her and bring her in Monday unless something changes.”

“Good.” He paused. “Your mother continued making purchases after the announcements began?”

“The receipts appear to show that.”
