Her expression hardened. “Your father would hate seeing the family divided.”

“My father saw the division.” That stopped her. “He apologized to me for it more than once.”

Brenda looked genuinely surprised. “What did he say?”

“That he was sorry he let my being quiet become an excuse to give me less.”
