Grandma Went Away
“What do you think I wanted?”
“To be the good daughter.”
I shook my head. “I wanted Lily to come home safely.”
Her expression shifted. For the first time since the mall, uncertainty replaced some of her anger. “The boys said Mom was looking at coats when Lily disappeared.”
I waited. “They said Lily kept asking for a snack. Mom told her to stay near the bench.”
“She is three.”
