Chapter 6 — Having the Keys

I reached into my handbag, took out the key fobs for the penthouse and the SUV, and set them down on the mahogany desk between us, side by side.

“Keep both,” I said.

His whole face changed.

He looked like a man who had just been handed a victory even larger than the one he’d come for — the wife not only leaving quietly, but leaving the trophies behind.

I stood, adjusted my coat, and walked toward the door.
