No phone screen lighting up with a name I dreaded.

No black sedan jumping the curb through the rain.

The terminal was full of warm, ordinary sunlight, and my phone buzzed once, with a text from Fiona that said only: Clear skies.

Company secure. I read it, and I smiled, and I switched the phone to airplane mode, and I boarded the jet — not because I was running from anything, this time, but because I had finally, entirely, taken back the controls.
