The money in the trust exists only to purchase that one thing: the lifelong ability to say no to any person, at any time, without the word putting a roof over her head at risk.

I did not have that certainty firmly enough, for a little while, and it nearly cost me everything.

My daughter will have it absolutely, from birth, for life.

Let her be as generous and open-hearted as she likes — I hope she will be.

But let her generosity always be a gift she chooses to give from a position of total security, and never a tax she pays out of fear.

That is the whole of what I want for her.
