Chapter 13 — We Need to Talk

He called me on the third day.

Two words: “We need to talk.”

I looked at the phone buzzing on my tray table, his name glowing on the screen — a name I had once taken as my own and now watched flash like a warning light — and I did not answer.

There was nothing left in me that needed to hear his voice, and nothing he could say that my attorneys could not receive on my behalf, in writing, on the record.

For the first time in his adult life, Flynn Locke had run into a wall his money could not move, and I could hear it in the very fact of that call.
