She lacked money, which the world too often treats as the same thing.

She chose to pour what little strength she had into keeping three babies alive rather than into a legal fight she was almost certain to lose, and from where I stand now, with the company built and the children thriving, I can see that she chose correctly, even if it broke her heart to do it.

So I don’t blame her anymore.

I just wish she’d had one single person, in that whole hard year, tell her that she and her children were worth fighting for.
