That evening Corbin canceled a private business dinner in downtown Providence and asked his driver to take him to the address on Lianna’s employment application.

It sat less than half an hour from his estate, and it might as well have been a different country.

The brick apartment building was old but well kept by the working families who lived in it.

Bicycles were chained to the porch railing, a child’s drawings decorated a lower window, and a bright laundromat glowed across the street.
