The cameras came two days later, and while Julian was at his firm I placed them where they needed to be, and then I set my trap with the one thing he trusted most: my predictable, exhausting schedule.
That Thursday I told him I had a twelve-hour shift.
I kissed him goodbye at half past six in the morning — “have a good day at the office, babe” — and he kissed my cheek and told me to work hard, and I watched him drive off believing he had the whole day.
