Chapter 18 — The Final Filing

A soft knock came at the open front door.

It was my attorney, Sarah Jenkins, who across five years had become a friend, carrying a slim leather folder and two coffees from the bakery in town.

“Morning, Sloan,” she said, setting a cup on the island and pulling up a stool.

“The last quarterly filing came through from the state trustee.

I thought you’d want to hear it in person.”
