That is what we built, out of the wreckage of my five years — not a monument to what Christian did, but a machine for undoing it in other lives, a place where the fictional version of a woman, written by someone who wanted to own her, can be replaced with the true one.
I would give a great deal never to have needed to build it.
But I did need to, and I did build it, and there are women walking around today, free and clear-eyed and themselves, because a man once decided I would be easier to control if I disappeared.
I did not disappear.
Neither will they.
That is the only revenge I ever wanted, and it turned out to be the same thing as a life.
