And at that exact moment there was a knock at the door, and an officer was standing on the step with a court summons that had come out of Bridget’s police report.

“Declan Hendricks?” the officer asked, holding out the document.

Declan took it, read the top line, and looked up at me, and every ounce of the vacation drained out of his face.
