He was soaked, severely dehydrated, and far too weak to climb out on his own. One leg had been hurt in the crash, and the swelling around his ankle made standing almost impossible.
He had crawled out of the cab as water began filling it, then dragged himself toward higher ground before the ditch became impossible to cross.
The fallen branches that hid him from the road had also made a small protected pocket where he could keep his face above the rising water.
Rainwater had collected in the curved lid of a damaged storage bin that had washed up nearby — barely enough to keep him alive.
