Here They Are
But they are also, in a practical sense, paralyzing, because heartbreak has no procedure.
There is no protocol for grief, no checklist for devastation, no number to call when your husband has broken your heart.
And so a person trapped inside the emotional frame of a betrayal often simply sits in it, overwhelmed, because the frame itself offers no path forward, only feeling.
What my training gave me, in that room, was the ability to step out of the emotional frame and into a different one.
To look at the same set of facts, the stolen passport, the canceled ticket, the taken child, and to see them not as the wounds of a wronged wife but as the elements of a crime, and to understand that this changed everything, because crime, unlike heartbreak, is a category the world is organized to respond to.
