Patricia leaned back in her tall leather chair and folded her hands on the desk.

“After the divorce went through, did you ever take money from him for the property taxes?”

“In January he gave me a check for nine hundred thirty dollars for his half of the prior year’s farm bill,” I said.

“I deposited it right away.”

“Did he put anything on the memo line?”

“He wrote ‘Paid in full’ in the bottom left corner,” I said.

Patricia nodded once and jotted a quick note on her yellow legal pad.
