“Where’s the missing serial number on check four-zero-nine?” Nathaniel asked.

Arthur paused in the doorway, his hand resting on the wooden frame.

“That check went to a third-party vendor for steel wire mesh, Nathaniel.

Read the court filing if you want the details.”

“I read the Project Four ledger,” Nathaniel said.

“The wire mesh was supplied directly by Strasburg Lumber.”

“Take it up with the county judge on the fifteenth,” Arthur said, and pulled the door shut behind him.

Nathaniel picked up the legal document and read the front page twice.
