Nathaniel looked past Arthur’s shoulder at his four site foremen.

The senior framing supervisor looked down at his work boots, slowly shaking his head.

“Your boss is chasing fairy tales because a laid-off drywall worker told him a sad story,” Arthur called out to the four foremen.

“He’s risking your site bonuses and your project schedules for nothing.”

None of the foremen said anything.

Arthur turned back to Nathaniel with a cold smile, tapped his silver tie bar once more, and walked back to his vehicle.

He pulled out of the gate, leaving a cloud of gray exhaust hanging in the freezing air.
