“She was a drywall finisher, not an electrician,” Nathaniel said.

“If she signs this, she takes legal responsibility for his skipped safety inspections,” Brenda said.

“He’s using six hundred dollars to buy himself an insurance policy against criminal building code fraud.”

“It isn’t even his personal money,” Nathaniel said.

“It’s a Vance Sub-Contracting payout.”

Brenda turned the sheet over and pointed to the small routing numbers printed along the bottom of the check.

“Check four-zero-nine,” Brenda said.
