The Government Did Not Hand Her A Hospital

The easiest version of Susan’s story would say that after becoming a successful physician, she convinced the government to build a hospital.

That is not what happened.

Federal Indian medical services were limited and uneven.

Susan wanted a modern facility in Walthill that could serve Omaha patients and others in the surrounding area.

Government support did not simply arrive.

So she raised money elsewhere.
