I Came Here by My Own Choice
Revenge is when you go out of your way to cause someone harm they would not otherwise have suffered.
I did the opposite: I stopped going out of my way to prevent harm they had earned.
For six years I had been standing between my family and the consequences of their own choices — covering the shortfalls, paying the premiums, absorbing the costs, holding up a life they could not afford on their own.
Every check had been me stepping into the path of a consequence and taking it myself.
To stop was not to attack them.
It was to step out of the path and let the consequence continue on to the person who had set it in motion.
