There is no contract for that.
There has never needed to be a contract for that.
It runs on something older than contracts, something I would have told you, four years ago, could not be broken: that a mother does not starve her son’s wife.
That blood does not do that to blood.
I believed that the way I believed the sun would come up.
And the thing about a belief like that is that it does not occur to you to check it, precisely because checking it would be the first crack in it — and so the people who mean to betray you get years, uninterrupted, protected by the very depth of your faith in them.
