“I canceled it this morning,” I said.

“Have you completely lost your mind?” Caroline said.

“If you take away Mom’s support, you’re the one hurting this family.”

“I’m not transferring nine hundred forty dollars into her account anymore,” I said.

“She has her mortgage payment coming out on the twenty-seventh,” Caroline said.

“She counts on that money to keep her Elm Street house out of default.”

“She locked Lucy in the dining room pantry last night,” I said.

“Lucy misbehaved over a dessert fork before grace was even finished,” Caroline said.
