Her worth was total and unconditional from her first breath, the way every human being’s is, and no diagnosis and no prognosis and no cost of care could add a single ounce to it or take a single ounce away, because human worth is not a variable.

It is a constant.

It does not fluctuate with health, or utility, or expense.

A child who will need surgery is every bit as precious as a child who will not.
