One warm afternoon, I was working from my home office when I heard my daughters laughing out on the back lawn.

“Daddy!

Come look!” Valeria shouted from the patio.

I looked at my laptop screen.

There were twelve unread corporate emails and a pending call from an investor.

And in the past, in my old life, the life that had nearly cost me everything, I would have called back, “Give me five minutes!”, and those five minutes would have become fifty, and my daughters would have learned, one more time, that they came after the screen.

This time, I closed the laptop without a second thought, and I walked out into the sunshine.
