Something was taped beneath the wooden frame, directly under Christopher’s side of the mattress.

A tightly wrapped bundle.

Dark plastic.

Several layers of duct tape holding it flat against the wood.

I stared at it.

“That’s not mine,” I whispered.

I lowered the mattress.

It landed with a dull thud, and I sat back on my heels.
