I Kept the Key
“I gave you three chances to give the money back.”
His eyes narrowed at that, because he knew it was true and he had not expected me to say it out loud.
I reminded him — and the room — of the certified letter I had sent him months earlier, laying out plainly what I had found and asking him, privately, to make it right.
I reminded him of the meeting he had agreed to and then simply not attended.
I reminded him of the voicemail I had left, telling him that our father knew, that this could still be handled quietly within the family if he would only stop.
He had called me a jealous failure and hung up.
