Mark shoved his chair back and stood. “Where exactly did you expect her to use the bathroom?”

Patricia’s mouth clamped shut.

Daniel went around his mother entirely and knelt beside our daughter. “Sweetheart. Did Grandma ever come back out to check on you?”

Mia shook her head into the wool collar. “I saw her once, Daddy. She was far away. I waved my arms, but she kept walking.”
