By sunrise my legal team had digitized and verified every document in that envelope. By noon my security detail had locked Daniel and Pierce out of every executive server at headquarters.
By evening I’d sent out a mandatory invitation. Everyone back to the ballroom.
Vanessa arrived glowing, in a white cocktail dress that looked a great deal like a pre-wedding gown, convinced I was finally staging an engagement announcement to lock things down before shipping myself off to a Swiss clinic.
In a sense she was right. It was an announcement. Just not hers.
