I Spent Nearly Two Weeks Recovering From Surgery and My Husband Never Visited Once—Then I Came Home and Froze at the Front Door

There is one sentence from the original version of our story that I still like.

“We stop saying one day.”

But I understand it differently now.

It does not mean:

Do everything immediately because life is short.

That kind of thinking can destroy savings and knees.

It means:

Stop using “one day” when what you really mean is “I am afraid to decide.”
