I Stopped Holding Him Up
Chapter 2 — The Envelope
Camila reached the emergency ward barefoot, her feet cut, her hair soaked, and felt none of it until she stepped into the cold room where her father lay.
George looked as if he were only sleeping. Camila dropped to her knees beside the gurney and held his cold hand.
“Forgive me, Dad,” she sobbed. “You were right about him all along.”
Behind her stood Attorney Donald Wayne and Julian Ross, George’s most trusted advisor.
When Camila found the strength to stand, Donald handed her a thick sealed envelope of documents.
Five years earlier, George had agreed to Camila’s marriage on one strict condition: she had to temporarily give up her financial privileges so they could pretend the family had lost its fortune.
