Chapter 6 — You Never Put Me First

“What is going on here?” My voice came out trembling, small.

Andrew sighed — actually sighed, as though I were the inconvenience, as though my appearance were the awkward thing in the room.

“I waited for you, Samantha.

You didn’t show up.”

“I was in an operating room saving the life of a dying six-year-old child!”

“You’re always saving someone else,” Andrew said, cold and flat.

“You never put me first.”
