Inside The Mysteries Of Göbekli Tepe, The Oldest Temple In The World
There is no unexplained anomaly in the construction evidence that requires a non-human explanation.
The Younger Dryas impact hypothesis — which proposes that a cosmic impact at the beginning of the Younger Dryas cold period around 12,900 years ago caused catastrophic destruction that reset human civilization — has been invoked in some popular discussions to frame Göbekli Tepe as evidence of rebuilding after a cosmic catastrophe.
This hypothesis is scientifically contested and has not achieved consensus in the relevant scientific communities.
Its application to Göbekli Tepe is doubly unsupported: the site’s major construction phases postdate the proposed impact event by at least 1,500 years, and there is no evidence at the site of the kind of cataclysmic destruction that the hypothesis predicts.
