The Taş Tepeler project, which extends the research framework to include multiple related sites across the region, represents a significant expansion of the research footprint and a promising direction for developing the comparative framework needed to understand what Göbekli Tepe means within its regional context.

The questions that remain unanswered about the site are, in a sense, the most valuable thing about it.

A site that has been fully excavated, fully understood, and fully explained would be historically instructive but archaeologically closed.

Göbekli Tepe, with the majority of its buried structures still unexcavated and with fundamental questions about the social world that produced it still unresolved, remains a live research site — a place where the next trench might reveal something that requires the current interpretations to be revised.

That kind of productive uncertainty is not a failure of research.
