Whether “the oldest temple in the world” is the exactly right phrase depends on how you define temple.
If temple means a building where people gathered for shared rituals and communal practices associated with beliefs about the supernatural or the sacred, then the label is defensible: Göbekli Tepe’s buildings almost certainly served some such function.
If temple implies a building exclusively devoted to religious practice with no domestic or social component, then the label oversimplifies: the site appears to have functioned in more complex and integrated ways.
The caution about the temple label is not pedantry.
