Adrian began visiting Hannah’s old bakery in Queens. The windows were boarded, the sign faded, the kitchen empty. Her former boyfriend had left the business with unpaid rent and supplier debt, but the landlord hadn’t leased it to anyone else.
“You should reopen it,” Adrian said.
Hannah stood in the dusty front room. “I can’t.”
“I can clear the debt.”
“I know.”
“Then what’s stopping you?”
