Chapter 13 — The Woman on the Other Side

The trial was in May, at the county courthouse, and it ran six days.

I am not going to write much about the testimony. It is Sabrina’s and she has told it once under oath and once to me, and that is twice more than anybody should have to.

What I will say is that she sat in that box for two hours and eleven minutes on the second day and she did not cry and she did not look at him, and afterward, in a stairwell, she shook so hard I had to hold her upright against a wall for four full minutes.
