“And I kept it. Through the second placement and through you and I never said a word, because I was seven and I thought if I was difficult I’d be moved again.”
She looked out the window.
“You had me for eleven months and you never once called me my own name,” Sabrina said. “That’s not your fault. It was on the paperwork. Every adult in that entire system called me Tessa and not one of them knew, because I never said, because saying things got you moved.”
