PART 14: The Letter in the Recipe Drawer

One rainy Saturday Marian asked me to find her old biscuit recipe.

It was written on an index card she had carried between houses for forty years.

I found it in the back of our kitchen drawer, tucked inside an envelope with my name on it.

“Kendra—For whenever you need reminding,” the envelope said in her handwriting.

Inside was a letter she had written after my father died.

She had never given it to me.
