Laura & Mark — The Divorce Settlement

I wasn’t at the closing.
Sarah received the settlement documentation and confirmation of the relevant payoffs, releases, and transfers.
Some of the outstanding business obligations would be handled through separate repayment arrangements under Mark’s responsibility.

They were not a triumphant jackpot for anyone.
After the liens, fees, and outstanding expenses, the equity Mark had imagined was much smaller than the estimate he had quoted whenever friends admired our house.
I sat at my desk with the papers spread out and felt the end of one chapter settle quietly around me.
